ROBEY CONN KILLS SISTER
From Quincy Herald-Whig,
Keokuk, Iowa, Dec. 23 – Robey Conn, 42, negro, brother of Mrs. Lucy Conn Webster Haley, formerly of Keokuk, was being held yesterday in Chicago for the death of Mrs. Haley, who stepped into the line of fire when Conn shot at Mrs. Haley’s son by a first marriage, Lloyd Webster, 25, in a quarrel in the Haley home Sunday night.
Two children of Mrs. Haley by a first marriage are living here, as are her parents.
A message received earlier Monday by relatives here stated that Will Haley, the woman’s husband, had done the shooting but this was corrected. Will Haley is a well-known Keokuk Negro race horse driver. His parents and one of his children are living.
(The colored folks involved are son and daughter of Mrs. Ann Conn of Keokuk, formerly of Kahoka. A brother, John Conn, resides here. – Ed.)
