STEP IN MURDER CASES

Two Men, Charged in Separate
Incidents, Are Arraigned

Two men charged with second degree murder in separate cases were arraigned yesterday before Magistrate Louis J. Mazuch. Preliminary hearing for each was set for September 8.

Eugene R. Hughes, 34 years old, 922 Linwood boulevard, a bartender, was released on $5,000 bond. He is charged in connection with the striking of Edwin Hassenplug, 28, of 1333 1/2 Grand avenue, in a dispute at a tavern at 2604 Truman road Thursday. Hassenplug died at a police station.

Charles Lee Stewart, 34, Negro, of 1408 Tracy avenue, was held in jail when unable to post $5,000 bond. His charge is in connection with the fatal stabbing August 19 of Waddell Keith, about 25, Negro, of Springfield, Ill., at Eighteenth street and Tracy.
