Notes:  The tally for the woman born between 1800 and 1810 doesn’t make sense here and seems to have been an error by the enumerator.  There is only one David Jernigan in Fayette County and he, and his family, are well documented.  We know from later census records that his wife Amelia was born in about 1792, just a few years younger than David.  Their eldest daughter, Jerusha, was born about 1813 to 1815 based on later census records.  Neither of those date ranges have a tally, with the mystery tally between them. Jerusha was likely already married by this time and seems to be tallied with her husband, William A. Gates.  So the mystery tally must represent Amelia. The rest of the children are accounted for.  There are four white men over the age of 30 – besides David – the rest must be hired and were almost certainly there as overseers of the 26 enslaved people on the plantation. This appears to be one of the higher mid-level plantations in Fayette County.
