 Notes:  Bernhard is noted as having been unemployed for the previous 12 months but this is almost certainly an error, as all of the men on the page are noted the same way and with self-employed occupation such as saloon keeper and tailor.  The eldest five children are all attending school and all of them born in Pennsylvania. Frederica is from a different part of Europe, suggesting the met and married in Pennsylvania, and that Bernhard came to the United States at least 1 year before the birth of their first child in 1864 (Carl, not in this census).
